AGRICULTURE MECHANICS PROJECT SHOW 

PURPOSE: TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FFA AND 4H MEMBERS TO DISPLAY THE PROJECTS CONSTRUCTED IN AN AGRICULTURE MECHANICS LABORATORY AND TO 

  • Promote the development of skills in agriculture mechanics through competition, 

  • Recognize individual accomplishments of youth through agricultural mechanics, 

  • Provide an opportunity for the public to develop an appreciation of this important phase of our youth program. 

RULES

  1. An entry fee of $30 is required from the main exhibitor of each project. The co-exhibitor entry fee is $15 per co-exhibitor. All entry fees are handled the same as for the livestock show. There is no refund of entry fees after the closing date of the entry. Entries are limited to invited FFA and 4H Chapters only.

  2. Projects must be constructed under the supervision of the Ag Mechanics teacher or under the supervision of an identified 4H Ag Mechanics project leader. All projects must be built and kept within the NISD boundaries unless approved by the WGLS Board of Directors.

  3. Each exhibitor or co-exhibitor may enter no more than two (2) ag mech projects per show year.

  4. Team projects are allowed with a maximum of four (4) team members per project If a team member becomes ineligible, the member will be removed from the team.

  5. A project may be entered only one time at the WGLS and must be constructed within one calendar year of the exhibition date. 

  6. Substitutions: Project substitutions must be made in writing, and post marked by January 1, 2025. After that date, project substitutions constitute a late entry and are subject to $100 late fee in addition to the entry fee. A project may be shown by identified co-exhibitors if the main exhibitor is unavailable. 

  7. All projects must be painted or properly treated and must be in clean and presentable condition. Professional paint jobs are prohibited. Wet paint on the project during check-in will result in disqualification. 

  8. A project book including an original working plan with dimensions, cut lists, photographs showing stages of construction, and a bill of materials is required for each project. 

  9. Tractors, trucks, or other vehicles are prohibited in the exhibit area as part of the display. 

  10. Appropriate and safe display stands must be provided by the exhibitor for gates, panels, and other projects that need support. Sharp edges and points; such as those found on self-feeder roofs, bale movers, etc. are to be padded and/or covered as necessary to prevent possible injury. 

  11. All projects are to be identified with standard club exhibitor’s cards. Additional signs, banners, etc. are encouraged, but are subject to approval by the division Superintendent. 

  12. Every precaution will be taken to protect the projects entered. However, the WGLS Directors, nor the officials of this division will be liable for the loss of or damage to projects. 

  13. The WGLS reserves the right to display the projects as space and quality of projects allow. It is possible for larger projects be displayed at an alternate site. 

  14. The Danish System will be used in judging the projects in the following categories. A second judge may be utilized. 
    A. Workmanship 30 
    B. Design and materials used 10
    C. Practicality 10
    D. Degree of difficulty 20
    E. Finish 10 
    F. Project Book 10 
    G. Interview (Questions and Answers) 10 

  15. Divisions: The Show Committee or Judge may reclassify or sift projects that do not meet the division or workmanship requirements. 
    A. Furniture and Cooking – Furniture, Fire Pits, Grills and other cooking devices 
    B. Shop Equipment and Truck Accessories – Shop Tables, Jigs, Resource Recovery, Truck Accessories 
    C. Farm, Livestock and Wildlife Equipment – Gates, Pens, Traps, Feeders, Troughs Observation Stands, Farm Implements 
    D. Trailers – Single Axle, Double Axle, Gooseneck 
    E. Restoration – Tractors and other Ag Related Restoration Projects 

16. Awards include: 

A. Champion and Reserve Champion of each Division. 

B. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champions of the Show. 

C. Blue, Red, and White Ribbons. A project must earn a blue ribbon to compete for Division Champion. If a Division does not have any blue ribbon projects, a Champion of Division will not be awarded. ​​

17. Ag Mechanics is not included in the livestock Auction of Champions. Prize money is awarded to 

qualifying projects. Other awards such as buckles, ribbons, or banners will only be provided to the main exhibitor of qualifying projects during the show. If the main exhibitor of a group project is unable to participate, the 1st co-exhibitor listed on the Entry Card becomes the main exhibitor etc. Additional buckles, if awarded, will be provided to co-exhibitors at a later date.

18. Projects must be on site and checked in by the exhibitor/parent by the identified time and date on the show schedule and
      must be removed from the show site immediately after the Ag Mechanics show unless approved by show superintendent.           Exhibitors may begin removal of projects immediately following the announcement of the Ag Mechanics awards.
